Australian songwriters Bernard Fanning and Paul Dempsey have joined forces and released a collection of bombastic, synth-laden sideways pop tunes. The arrangements are scintillating and the interwoven vocals charm.

For singer-songwriters Bernard Fanning (Powderfinger) and Paul Dempsey (Something for Kate), the past 18 months were a dazzling “adventure” as the pair worked on their latest musical collaboration.

I’ve enjoyed a friendship and professional relationship with both songwriters over the past decade and I can read their faces. Judging from the excitable boyish smiles beaming from my laptop screen, their adventure was less The Odyssey – glory, sex, destruction – and more Hardy Boys – glee, gaiety, play. The fruit of their labour is The Deluge, by Fanning Dempsey National Park (FDNP), released on August 2.
